Back in 2019, the Adam Gase era was over and Stephen Ross hired Brian Flores fresh off of destroying the Ram’s offense in the Super Bowl. It was he, Grier, and Ross who hatched the plan of gutting the team even getting rid of its very good, young, and highly drafted players thinking these guys won’t be around when the team starts actually winning. So Tunsil, Minkah, and others were sent packing and the Dolphins received a treasure trove of draft compensation for them.

2020 was the draft where they had three 1st rounders and two second-rounders. We all knew where they were going with the 5th overall pick. We knew that for about a year due to Stephen Ross not being able to keep it secret how much he loved Tua Tagovailoa. The owner got his man. The team also drafted Austin Jackson and Noah Ogbinoghene in the 1st round. Turns out, neither of those guys can play.

We still don’t know if Tua is good or not. We know he’s at least just alright but is he a franchise guy, who knows? We know he isn’t Justin Herbert, a fact that everyone is or should be aware of. If it wasn’t for Herbert’s ascension things wouldn’t be as annoying for this team. But Herbert is awesome and everyone has to deal with that. Tua may end up being a very good quarterback but I just don’t see him getting to the level of Herbert.

The other guys, Jackson and Iggy, have been nothing short of tragic. One can’t even suit up and the other shouldn’t be allowed to block in the western hemisphere. Missing on two out of the three and quite possibly all of these picks have put this team in a tailspin. Due to these misses, and other factors such as bringing in free agents and getting rid of them almost instantly have put this team in a position of being very hollow.

Because of these wild misses, I don’t know how another teardown doesn’t take place. I don’t think they’ll just spend all types of money in free agency so getting rid of guys and getting whatever they can for them is really the only play.

Again, I don’t hate the idea of how the first teardown happened. It was the execution by everyone in evolved from the coaches to the gm and his scouting departments that are just awful at identifying talent. What’s possibly worse is the development of that talent. It’s a real chicken or the egg type of situation the Dolphins have once again found themselves in.
