I’ve got three other moments that at the time weren’t awful and sad but over time have proven to be really good fodder for folks to throw in our faces.

1. The Dolphins taking Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. This one is tough to have witnessed for 15 years. Simply put, if the Dolphins take Brees’ shoulder over Culpepper’s knee then the Dolphins would probably be vying for the playoffs and more every year. That, or they would have found a way to squander on the greatest quarterbacks that have ever lived which they are fully capable of doing.

2. Nick Saban. That was just mean. I get lying and all that I do. But why did the universe have to decree that Saban becomes the greatest college football coach of all time? The universe didn’t have to do that but it certainly did.

3. Not selecting Matt Ryan in the 2008 draft. Miami took Jake Long who was really good for a few years. But he eventually broke down earlier than anyone would have thought and Matt Ryan is still playing. Yeah, Ryan isn’t what he once was but he went to a Super Bowl, won an MVP, and has been as consistent as anybody. He’s going to be a borderline hall of fame. Not as bad as missing out on Brees but still pretty bad to wonder What If?
