Christian Wilkins is another first round draft pick that is starting to show the reasons why the Miami Dolphins drafted him. Wilkins has never been bad but he hasn’t been incredible. This year, he is reaching that incredible level of play.

Wilkins is under contract for another year and the Dolphins can opt to keep him on the fifth year option and they probably will, they should. Wilkins is more than just a defensive lineman. He is becoming a leader but also the team’s quasi-cheerleader. He runs on the field after touchdowns to congratulate and celebrate with the offense and he is always high energy.

Now it is all coming together with far more consistency. Some of that play can be attributed to having Raekwon Davis beside him. There is no doubt the two of them are making each other better.

Wilkins is going to get a big contract after the 2022 season and the Dolphins would be smart to try and extend him now while he may come in cheaper. Miami has a few other players whose contracts are coming due after this season so Wilkins won’t be a major priority right now but he is going to continue to get better and that means more money.
