Jason Sanders was money last year, this year, he has money. Of course, we can’t completely blame Sanders. It’s not like the Dolphins consistently move the ball down the field to get it into field goal range. Then again, Brian Flores has become more hesitant with Sanders kicking outside of 50 yards.

Sanders has attempted only three FGs from outside the 50 this year and he has made two of them. He has 5 attempts inside the 50 but outside the 40 and has made only three. Overall, Sanders has missed four field goals on 12 attempts. 12. Last season, Sanders attempted 39 FGs and made 36. He has already missed more than last season and has attempted far lower.

This past offseason, the Dolphins believed it would be smarter to lock him up long term now rather than pay more later. Sanders was given an contract extension and this year that contract will pay him $3.3 million but if they cut him, they would eat an unbelievable $7.5 million.

Sanders won’t become a free agent until 2027. His contract is valued at $22 million with $7.5 million guaranteed. Miami won’t eat a lot of cap space should they want to move on from him until after the 2022 season. Next year he will make $3.1 million and after the 2023 season, his cap space increases to over $4 million.

Sanders deal isn’t really all that bad but the fact he has only attempted 12 field goals so far is the disturbing part.
