I didn’t think we would get a Ravens-like showing against the Jets from the Dolphin’s defense. There was just no way that type of electricity would be able to repeat two weeks in a row and also on the road. But, the defense did something that they usually don’t and that’s that they didn’t have a complete opposite performance.

They pressured Joe Flacco, who mostly did a decent job of seeing the blitz and getting the ball out, and didn’t commit many penalties on the back end. That part was a huge part for me. I wrote on Sunday morning how Flacco loves the flag play. Well, good on the Dolphin’s secondary for not doing anything too wild and committing a bunch of defensive pass interference penalties when Flacco would just throw the ball up on 3rd down.

Obviously, the play of the day from a defensive standpoint was the heat-seeking missile that is Brandon Jones messing up Joe Flacco’s entire world.

And we knew that Jones would be coming off the edge a bunch in this game because he’s been doing a ton of that the last few weeks. It’s amazing to me that the Jets didn’t have an APB on Jones every time they went to pass. But, they also have to look for Jevon Holland, Emmanuel Ogbah, and AVG.

That’s the beauty of the current state of the Dolphin’s defense. It’s not just one guy. Sure, Jevon Holland is getting a lot of publicity for what they’re doing, rightfully so, but we know there’s a bunch of guys contributing. Brandon Jones, the other young safety, is showing out every week. Dare I say, he’s has a Jamal Adams quality to him?

Either way, this defense is humming and they’re going to need to bring everything they have to take down Cam Newton and the Panthers on Sunday. This game will be a major test for this team. The Panthers have really good skill players and Newton has that team believing they’re better than their record indicates. It’s going to be a fascinating game come Sunday.
