Getting yourself two sacks gets you on this list. Jerome Baker, a guy I think who fancies himself a leader on this team and one who I think the players treat as one of their leaders, had himself an all-around very good game.

He’s been commanding the middle of the field for the Dolphin’s take no prisoners defense in both the passing game and run game. The Dolphins have been stout against the run, over this stretch, and a big part of that is Jerome Baker. To me, he’s been doing the best work in his career of reading his keys, filling gaps, and wrapping up.

I wish Josh Boyer and Brian Flores would blitz him a bit more because I think he can do real damage to opposing quarterbacks. He has a knack, like Brandon Jones does, of knifing his way through a particular gap and getting home. He has the speed to do it and the know-how to finish the play. Even in this blitz first, ask questions style of defense where the safties and edge rushers are doing most of the bringing pressure portion of the scheme, Jerome Baker can go up the A and B gaps on occasion to take the quarterback down.

He did that yesterday so maybe this is his way of getting started on a journey of being more of a blitzer. I’d be all for it.
