The Tennesse Titans are a team that is so set in their ways that losing Derrick Henry for the season set them back a few paces. Yes, this team is still at the top of their division fighting for the top seed in the conference, but they are not the same team with Henry running the football.
So you are probably wondering why the team would select a guy like Iowa State’s Breece Hall when they’ll likely have Henry back healthy next season. Well, running backs sometimes don’t make it all the way back after injury, take a look at Christian McCaffrey, and drafting Hall would give the Titans stability behind Henry, rather than playing free agent musical chairs at the position.
When the team drafted Henry they still had Demarco Murray on the roster, who at the time was one of the top running backs in football. This contingency plan would allow the Titans to run the same offense, while not worrying solely on Henry.
While it likely won’t be the pick, it would make sense for the Titans to upgrade at the position. It would also give them the chance to rotate and preserve Henry, rather than giving him 30+ touches a game.
