Miami Dolphins: Running back trade options to consider this offseason
By Pablo Rosero
If I had to guess who would be more likely to be traded between McCaffrey or New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, I would likely go with the latter.
The former second overall pick in the 2018 draft started his career with back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons, including a 2,000 scrimmage yard season in his first season. Since 2019 though? Barkley has missed a total of 18 games out of 33 games and has a total of just 950 scrimmage yards in those two seasons.
He did tear his ACL in 2020, but some of the faults should also lie with the Giants’ horrendous offense. While Miami Dolphins’ fans are very clearly upset over their offense, the Giants’ offense is much worse and the fact that they have not had a winning season in the past five seasons is proof of that.
This year Barkley waited until week 17 to finally have a 100-yard rushing game. Prior to that he only had one game over 60 rushing yards. He also only had one game with over 45 receiving yards on the season.
Barkley’s usage last season was mind-boggling since he only had one fame with over 20 carries. Although it was likely a result of the offense being down in almost every game this season.
Similar to McCaffrey the team would have to monitor his health and it will be interesting to see if the Giants’ new general manager, whoever it ends up being, will want to trade Barkley. The Dolphins could give a call if the team doesn’t want to give Barkley a new deal.
