As the Miami Dolphins sit home for another year while the playoffs go on, they aren’t just sitting home and doing nothing.

Instead, they are currently on a head coaching search that has been interesting to follow.

For starters, firing head coach Brian Flores was an interesting move considering Miami did not fire general manager Chris Grier too.

However, after Miami fired Flores, all attention went right to current Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh is the guy Miami needs to hire, but what if they don’t hire Harbaugh?

Mike McDaniel should be the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

I could see Miami go with buffalo bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll or Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Both of these guys make sense, but in my opinion, if Miami does not hire Harbaugh, they need to swing for the fences, even if they miss.

Daboll and Quinn may not be the safest hires, but they are far safer than hiring McDaniel.

McDaniel does not even call plays as the offensive coordinator in San Francisco, which is concerning, but his players and other coaches rave about him. And just because he does not call plays does not mean that he is not an integral part of the game planning process.

There is no doubt that hiring McDaniel would be the most boom or bust hire for the Dolphins, but it’s time to shake things up. Clearly, whatever they’ve been doing hasn’t been working, so it’s time to take a risk and see what happens. It has been nothing but mediocrity for the Dolphins, and outside of the Detroit Lions, Miami is one of the worst franchises in the NFL.

With all that said, here are three reasons the Miami Dolphins should Mike McDaniel as the next head coach.

(And everyone, please, it is Mike “McDaniel,” not Mike McDaniels…)

3. Potential

I mentioned boom or bust, and I truly believe hiring Mike McDaniel would be boom or bust. However, one of the reasons to hire him is because of the boom.

Yes, I get it; the bust could be astronomical for Miami. McDaniel could come to Miami and completely flop and set the franchise back further. You have to understand right away that this could happen, and hiring McDaniel is not a sure thing.

But what if he is a boom? That boom will be franchise-altering in a great way. Miami may be hiring him a year or two too soon, but sometimes getting in early is the way to go.

McDaniel has coached for a long time as well and had great connections in the NFL. So you could also hope that his staff would potentially be elite as well.

Hiring the next big head coach in the NFL that could put an elite staff together? Sign me up! But don’t forget to read the disclaimer at the button that says this could lead to more heartbreak…

2. Innovative on Offense

I loved Brian Flores’ defense. I thought it was one of the best in the NFL, and it was so intricate. You could tell the defense was prepared each and every well, and they were tough to figure out for opposing offenses.

While that was fun and awesome, what did it really do for Miami? Back-to-back winning seasons were cool, but no playoffs? Why not? Because Miami’s offense was TRASH! It was hard to watch that offense play every single week.

They lacked innovation in all aspects of the game, which is why hiring McDaniel would be awesome. McDaniel is known as an offensive guru and has some of the best run schemes in the NFL.

McDaniel has learned under the Shanahan coaching tree, and currently, Kyle Shanahan is one of the best offensive minds in the game.

Miami needs a revamped offense, and McDaniel could bring that to Miami on Day 1.

1. Destiny

I am only half kidding when I say I believe in destiny, but I truly believe in destiny for this situation.

One of the best follows on Dolphins Twitter, 3rd, & Juan shared this picture.

In this picture, it shows the Washington Football Team’s team photo. That photo features the loaded staff Washington had that showcased the skills of Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur, and Kyle Shanahan.

Those three guys are incredible offensive minds, incredible head coaches, and they all give credit to being on that coaching staff. All three of these guys are still alive in the playoffs with their teams too. Do not let that go unnoticed or unsaid. It is a huge part of the reason why I believe they need to hire McDaniel. I know, that sounds dumb, but just go with it. Destiny.

In that photo, there is one other coach highlighted. That coach is Mike McDaniel, who McVay, LaFleur, and Shanahan rave about. All three of these guys are in the NFC and will need to compete to make it to the Super Bowl, while McDaniel could join the AFC if hired by the Dolphins.

It’s pretty obvious to me that it is destiny for McDaniel to find the same success as these other elite coaches in the NFL, so as @FinsOrDie says, “I said I need it!”

BRING HIM HOME!
