Miami Dolphins: 15 Playoff Players to target
By Pablo Rosero
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard
With the current starting tight end Mike Gesicki set to hit free agency the Miami Dolphins will either need to resign him, let him go and trust the uncertainty of their depth, or get a new one this offseason. The team could target OJ Howard as a replacement for Gesicki due to the fact that he is a solid pass catcher.
Howard was a former first-round pick out of Alabama that was expected to have a massive role when Tom Brady was signed on to be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Instead, Robert Gronkowski was signed as well and pushed Howard further down the depth chart.
Howard does not only have to compete with Gronkowski and Cameron Brate for snaps, but he also has had to compete with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, and all the running backs on the roster as well. He has struggled to become a piece of the offense and should look to move on.
The 6-foot-6 tight end is a dynamic player, so it’s odd that he fell out of favor the way he ha. He was unable to beat out Brate similar to Ronald Jones being able to hold on to his starting position against Fournette.
Howard should draw a ton of attention in free agency, but he’ll probably only sign with a team that will use him.
