Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson

The former Super Bowl winning head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles was fired by the team after a difficult 2020 season. He was able to elevate both Carson Wentz and Nick Floes on the Eagles way to upsetting the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl during the 2018 season.

He may not be a big name either, but he does bring an interesting resume to the table. While Pederson did not coach at all last season, he is the only former head coach on this list that does have a Super Bowl win. He also belongs to the Andy Reid coaching tree as he was the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator from 2013 to 2015.

His experience with Alex Smith during his time with the Chiefs could bode well for Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Smith and Tagovailoa offer similar skill sets and Pederson could be able to maximize his potential.

With Smith, Wentz, and Foles, Pederson was not afraid of throwing downfield and opening the field. The Dolphins have yet to have an offensive coach that has let Tagovailoa throw the ball downfield and take chances. However, while at both Kansas City and Philadelphia, Pederson’s offenses had a top-notch offensive line, something that would need to be improved in Miami.

The news of Pederson becoming a head coach has died down in recent days as teams seek to replicate the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers’ formula of hiring young offensive minds.
