Miami Dolphins solidify EDGE with Jermaine Johnson in round 1

EDGE. Florida State. JermaineJohnson. 29. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 59

With all the top offensive linemen in the draft off the board, the Miami Dolphins could look at filling another area of need. The team seems to have landed a solid EDGE rusher in former Miami Hurricane Jaelan Phillips in the 2021 NFL draft, but they’ll need to pair him with another impact pass rusher if they want to have an elite defense.

Emmanuel Ogbah is currently a free agent and there have not been any indications of bringing him back for 2022. If that is the case, the Dolphins would benefit from drafting Florida State EDGE Jermain Johnson.

Johnson, the 2021 ACC Defensive player of the year, may not currently be considered a first-round pick, but he is likely to rise up draft boards. The 6-foot-5 EDGE rusher did a little bit of everything his junior season for a below-average Seminoles squad.

In 2021, Johnson had 70 tackles, 12 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and 2 pass deflections. Johnson was by far the best defensive player for Florida State, and clearly in the entire ACC.

Paring Phillips and Johnson could give the team an explosive pass rush duo that can wreck offenses for years to come.
