The Bengals Blueprint

It was just three short years ago when the Bengals and Dolphins were battling to see who was the more inept NFL franchise. Miami was so bad at the start of the 2019 season that some were saying that they were compromising the integrity of the game, and yet Cincinnati somehow ended the season with an even worse record. They received the #1 overall pick in the 2020 Draft and selected a guy named Joe Burrow, who you might hear a little bit about on Super Bowl Sunday.

For many down-trodden franchises across multiple sports, the Bengals run to the Super Bowl has instilled hope. Fans of teams like the Detroit Lions and Sacramento Kings and San Diego Padres have watched Burrow and company and thought to themselves, “If they can do it, why not us?”. You may feel that as a Miami Dolphins fan. But you may also be getting the feeling that that should have been us. Both of the franchises were on similar rebuild timelines, and for a long while it seemed as though the Dolphins were the ones that were making the most progress. But as we watch the Bengals make it to the Promised Land, we sit with our pain of missing out on the playoffs for the 18th time in the last 20 years.

They get the spotlight, the shine, the feel-good stories and positive media coverage. We get to live with potentially debilitating turmoil and constant question marks.

You know what? Turn it off. I’ve seen enough.
