Miami Dolphins: Ideal Mike McDaniel off-season plan
By Pablo Rosero
Miami Dolphins must prioritize Brandon Scherff
The Miami Dolphins and McDaniel should not and can not stop at just adding one offensive lineman if they want to completely turn around this team. Signing Armstead would be a good start, but he won’t be enough.
Going after offensive guard Brandon Scherff would be another solid play. After a seven year career with the Washington Commanders and being franchise tagged twice, Scherff is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career.
Scherff is expected to walk now that the his tag price likely won’t match his worth. He is expected to land $12.9 million per year for 3 years. His price is lower, but he is still one of the best guards in football.
Similar to Armstead, Scherff was hurt in 2021 but should be ready to go in 2022. Scherff would be an upgrade at the right guard position, but the right guard is the teams current best position on the offensive line.
Currently, Robert Hunt is the team’s right guard and could easily slot into right tackle. With Scherff, Armstead, and Hunt the Dolphins could be taking a solid first step towards an improved offensive line. The team will need to turn to the draft to finish the offensive line or hope for a breakout from one of Jackson or Eichenberg.
