New York Jets add Cincy CB Ahmad Gardner tenth overall

Pick Analysis. AhmadGarnder. player. 30. Scouting Report. CB. Cincinnati. 10

The New York Jets are back on the clock thanks to the Seattle Seahawks’ poor season. The Jets received this pick in the deal that sent safety Jamal Adams to the Seahawks.

With their first pick in the draft, the Jets took Kayvon Thibodeaux fifth overall, adding a piece to Robert Salah’s defense. With their next pick, they add another impressive young defensive player in Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.

The Jets are in need of a young number one corner, especially considering the fact they need to play against the Miami Dolphin’s Jaylen Waddle and Buffalo Bill’s Stefon Diggs twice a year. Gardner should be up for the challenge after being one of college football’s best corners.

During his time with the Bearcats, Gardner did not allow a single touchdown while in coverage. That may not translate to the NFL, but he has all the tools to be an elite corner.

He offers good size at 6-foot-2 and should impress at the NFL combine. If it weren’t for Stingley, Gardner would be the top corner in this class.

Gardner should instantly help the Jets secondary and the addition of both him and Thibodeaux should immediately help with their defense.
