New York Giants select NC State OT Ikem Ekwonu fifth overall

The New York Giants have a chance to have a splash offseason that can elevate this roster, but it will take a series of moves.

The team started off strong by hiring Joe Schoen from the Buffalo Bills and then Brian Daboll, the coach who was assumed to be the Miami Dolphins’ top choice. They then were able to snag Wink Martindale as their defensive coordinator and Mike Kafka as the offensive coordinator.

With Daboll in place, the Giants will likely try to get the most out of quarterback Daniel Jones while trying to elevate running back Saquon Barkley, wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadrius Toney, and tight end Evan Engram. The only real way they’ll be ale to achieve that is by improving their offensive line.

First, they’ll need to move on from Nate Soldier and replace him. Here, with their first of two first-round picks, they’ll take the first step in improving the offensive line with North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu.

Ekwonu will likely be a candidate for the first overall pick if the Jaguars want to go offensive tackle, but here he falls to the Giants. He will likely be a day one starter and take over the right tackle slot.
