New York Giants take Iowa IOL Tyler Linderbaum seventh overall

7. player. 31. IOL. Pick Analysis. Iowa. TylerLinderbaum. Scouting Report

The New York Giants are back on the clock and after taking Ekwonu fifth overall, they’ll need to continue to improve their offensive line. Taking Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum would be a massive upgrade at the position.

Linderbaum is the best interior offensive lineman and center in the entire draft. Last year’s top center, Oklahoma’s Creed Humphrey, had instant success in the NFL after being a second-round pick for the Kansas City Chiefs. He not only was PFF’s highest-graded rookie but an important piece for a playoff team.

Drafting both Ekwonu and Linderbaum shows the Giants’ importance in improving their offense. Both of these players should step in as starters immediately replacing Soldier and Nick Gates respectively.

The two would also join former top pick, Andrew Thomas, along with the rest of the team’s offensive line. They’d have to make a decision on what they would do for the rest of their offensive line, whether they replace their guards in free agency or the draft, or bring back both of their current offensive guards in Will Hernandez and Matt Skura.

An improved offensive line should open the door for both Jones and Barkley to bounce back from down seasons. Linderbaum and Eknouw would be great first two draft picks for Schoen and Daboll.
