Durham Smythe

There is plenty of debate about whether the Dolphins should bring back Mike Gesicki, via the franchise tag or classic contract. But fellow tight end Durham Smythe is a free agent as well, and the team will have a serious decision to make. They can bring back both, but Smythe would come with a much cheaper price tag, and could potentially be a better fit for coach McDaniel’s new scheme. He was the most reliable non-RB pass catcher for Miami last season, with an 82 percent catch rate.

We’ll know more when we know what happens with Gesicki, who will be the first domino to fall.

Nik Needham

Nik Needham was one of the pleasant surprises for the Miami Dolphins during the Brian Flores era, and the team would be smart to bring him along for the ride with the new regime. He will be due a hefty pay increase after making just $850,000 last season, but it is one that the Dolphins should be willing to shell out given the familiarity with the defense and potential for future production as a 25-year-old.
