3 Reasons why the Miami Dolphins should sign Ryan Jensen
By Matt Serniak
Moving Deiter out of the center position isn’t the worst thing for him because I think moving back to guard in a Mike McDaniel-themed offensive system is what could be best for him.
Deiter was drafted as a guard out of Wisconsin. Admittedly, his first go-around at guard wasn’t too splendid. I mean to his credit, he had ill-equipped coaches working with him and his only real season where he played was his rookie season where the Dolphins assembled the worst team ever.
His dimensions are slightly suspect for a zone-blocking system. He’s 6’6 315LBS. Typically, you want smaller linemen who are very athletic and can pull quickly. My counter to that is Mike McDaniel has said in the past that he would love his linemen to be 6’6 350LB guys. My point is I don’t think that McDaniel has a type when it comes to his players. Can you accomplish the job he wants you to accomplish? That’s what he cares about.
Adding Ryan Jenson is a major upgrade at the center position and it allows for more possibilities across the line in regards to Deiter. I would think adding Jenson wouldn’t be the only move the Dolphins make in regards to the offensive line. Terron Armstead is also a guy they are rumored to be interested in.
Sign me up for both of them. If Miami were to do this, they still would have money to get other very talented free agents.
