We went through the same song and dance in 2021 as we will during the upcoming season when it comes to the Miami Dolphins and Mike Gesicki.

Along with defensive lineman Emmanuel Ogbah, it was unclear whether or not Gesicki would be returning to the team for the 2022 season. But unlike Ogbah who signed a multi-year deal with the Dolphins, the now-5th year tight end has been brought back by accepting the franchise tag, which will tie him to Miami for at least one more season.

He will be a needed and familiar weapon for Tagovailoa and company, and could find himself open often by being the third or even fourth receiving option on the field at any given time. While it is true that there is only one ball to go around and plenty of hands to keep happy, it is not far-fetched to imagine Gesicki having the best season of his career thus far.

If that is the case, then he may become to expensive for the Dolphins liking. They will have many mouths to feed financially in the coming years, especially if Tagovailoa is brought back after a successful season. The tight end room will be subject to change, but it is currently one of the deepest spots on the roster, and an emergence from someone else could help the team justify moving on from Gesicki for 2023.
