What if the Miami Dolphins keep kicking the can further down the road and load up for next year’s draft?

The Dolphins have made it very apparent that they are uninterested in the 2022 Draft, at least for the early rounds. And given their stockpiling of picks for the 2023 version, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them sell off even more selections this year in exchange for next.

The most valuable of the selections that Miami owns is of course the supplemental pick that they received from the 49ers, which falls at the end of the third round at pick 102. Should there be a player available that another team covets when the Dolphins are on the clock, then the front office should be fielding phone calls.

A general rule of thumb is that next year’s 3rd rounder is worth this year’s 4th. With pick 102 essentially being an early 4th rounder, then Miami might be able to add yet another third-round pick to their arsenal for 2023. They already have their own as well as the Patriots pick, which would give Miami a total of six selections in the top 100.

The Dolphins still have a couple of holes to fill and depth to add, and doing it through the draft would be financially responsible. But if they are able to add a veteran free agent or two before draft night, then the 3rd round pick could become expendable.
