With the 102nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Luke Fortner center from Kentucky.

Fortner started last season at the center position but played most of his collegiate career at guard. This versatility can be a boon for Fortner to be selected at this spot.

The Miami Dolphins’ new head coach, Mike McDaniel has said not much is set in stone when is comes to the offensive line.

Notice how in the tweet by Travis Winfield who works for the Miami Dolphins, McDaniel mentioned versatility. Which is one part of Fortner’s game that cannot be denied.

The fact he can play both a guard and center will be enticing. Pro Football Focus graded his 2021 season at 85.1. He allowed two sacks and two hurries.

During the combine, Fortner had 31 reps on the bench press which put him at the 86th percentile for that exercise.

While he is a tad on the older side for an NFL prospect, he will be 24 years old come May. If the Fins are looking for competition for the incumbent starter, Michael Deiter, Fortner may provide a fierce battle to see who gets the starting nod.

At worst, the Dolphins just picked up a valuable depth piece with experience at multiple positions on the offensive line.
