NFL Draft: Best day 2 linebackers for the Miami Dolphins
By Wesley Minke
Chad Muma from Wyoming is the most NFL-ready of the possible linebackers for the Miami Dolphins at pick 102.
At 6 foot 3 inches tall and 239 pounds, Chad Muma comes into the 2022 NFL Draft with a rare combination of NFL size and speed that not many prospects have. According to PFF, he ranked 9th out of 815 eligible linebackers in college football during the 2021 season, receiving a grade of 90.3.
Chad Muma was the biggest playmaker all year for Wyoming and would be an incredible addition next to the Miami Dolphins’ rising star linebacker, Jerome Baker. The thing that would make this pair elite, is the rare combination of speed and size they both possess.
It has been noted many times how much the Miami Dolphins want to move Jerome Baker into a role where he can rush the passer more often. However, they have not been able to with a guy like Elandon Roberts being the primary coverage option if that move is made.
Those issues are now resolved with a move to get Chad Muma. While Chad Muma has excelled at rushing the passer in college, with 21 total QB pressures in 2021, it is his ability to cover and tackle in open space that excites me the most.
Through 348 coverage snaps taken in 2021, Chad Muma recorded 115 solo tackles and only missed 13 total tackles. That was something that haunted the Miami Dolphins throughout 2021 and allowed for extended drives and big plays down the stretch.
His ability to diagnose the play quickly will allow him to play in the box, and still, be able to use his raw athleticism to cover any player that comes across the middle. For Miami Dolphins fans, there are too many times where Jerome Baker and Elandon Roberts bite down on play-action and give the defenders no chance to stop anyone. That changes with this pick of Chad Muma.
