Round 4, Pick 125: Brandon Smith, LB, PSU

It would not surprise me to see former Penn State linebacker Brandon Smith go as early as the 2nd round in the 2022 NFL Draft, but it also wouldn’t surprise me to see him be on the board early in the 5th round.

Smith’s evaluation will likely be all over the place, and that is because that’s how his play is. There are flashes of brilliance in Smith’s game, followed by plays that make you wonder why he’s even on the field.

His inconsistent play will hurt him, but what will hurt him the most is that his bad plays are TERRIBLE. There are plays in the run game where Smith looks like a JV player getting owned by a varsity player, so it’s confusing when you see him shot out of a cannon and make a big play.

I think Smith is a perfect fit in Miami’s defense, and I’d love to see if Miami could help him reach his sky-high potential but fall flat in his face with his extremely low floor.
