Miami Dolphins opposing pass rusher #1: T.J. Watt

T.J. Watt’s journey to the Defensive Player of the Year award was an interesting one.

Watt truly came on in 2018, his second year in the league, when he sacked the quarterback 10 times on the way to his first Pro Bowl. Things have gotten increasingly better since, and the 5th year player already has 72 sacks to his name, and he has become one of (if not the) best pass rushers in the game today.

He won DPOY in 2021 behind his league-leading and record-breaking 22.5 sacks, In the second straight season he has led the NFL in both sacks and tackles for loss. He did so in 2020 as well, when he came up short to Aaron Donald in the voting. In 2019, he placed third behind Stephon Gilmore and Chandler Jones.

The Steelers may be entering a kind of transitional phase when they travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins in 2022, but Watt will be the dominant force that he always is.

Of all of the elite pass rushers that Miami will face in 2022, Watt is certainly the cream of the crop. Dolphins’ offensive lineman Terron Armstead should have this game circled on his calendar, and Tua Tagovailoa should keep one eye over his shoulder for the entire three hours.
