There are currently 98 days left before the Miami Dolphins 2022 season opens up. Each day, I’ll honor one player who wore the number that connects with how many days we have left until football returns.

Today, we start with the number 98.

There have been quite a few players over the last 2 decades or so that wore this jersey number. Some had decent careers in Miami, like Jared Odrick and Matt Roth, while some were gone before you even realized they were on the roster, like Quinton Coples and Jonathan Ledbetter.

While Odrick had a solid career in Miami during his time, he never quite lived up to the first-round pick Miami spent on him. Roth didn’t really do a whole lot when it comes to rushing the passer and was gone after a few short years. While you could make an argument for either of these players if you really wanted to, neither really made a huge impact on the field.

With the Dolphins’ season only 98 days away, it’s time to start our countdown with a talented player with tremendous upside.

Instead, to kick this series off I’m gonna go with the current Dolphin that wears number 98 in Raekwon Davis.

Since he came into the league, I’ve appreciated his ability to stop the run and the motor that he plays with. I always liked Davon Godchaux as a player for this unit but Davis’ play over the course of his rookie season made Godchaux expendable. That type of potential and execution is exactly why Miami invested an early pick on him back in the 2020 draft.

Davis is still young and has tremendous upside as a run stuffer and as a valuable part of the current defensive line rotation. If he can get better at rushing the passer this season, he could develop into a more complete player who can impact the game in more ways when on the field.

98 days left till football!
