Rankings: Who is the best wide receiver in the AFC East?
3rd best receiver in the AFC East: Jaylen Waddle
He was the number one option for the Miami Dolphins offense last season, something that helped Jaylen Waddle set the NFL record for most receptions by a rookie. He would also be the second-best wide receiver in the AFC East if it wasn’t for the arrival of his new teammate.
Waddle will be second on the depth chart in Miami, but he’ll be one of the many weapons that opposing defenses will have to account for. If he is able to find holes in the coverage with room to run, don’t be surprised to see Waddle finish the 2022 season as the leading receiver for the Dolphins.
2. Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill is a perennial Pro Bowler and represents the biggest “superstar” that the Miami Dolphins have had in some time. He has finished with well over 1,000 yards in each healthy season since 2017 and is known to be arguably the most explosive player in the entire league.
The only reason why he is not number one on this list is his new situation and the potential to have growing pains with his new team and offensive system. There are unknowns surrounding Hill and just how much of the Chiefs offense he or Patrick Mahomes was responsible for, and they will remain until the beginning of the season.
But if Hill can continue the excellent start to his career with Tua Tagovailoa throwing him the ball, then there is no reason why he can’t be the best wide receiver in the AFC East.
1. Stefon Diggs
Who is the best wide receiver in the AFC East is a highly debatable topic and no ranking is more difficult than choosing between the first and second place on this list. The aforementioned Hill has the necessary numbers to make a legitimate case, but Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills has simply been doing it in the division longer.
Diggs was a great receiver as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, but instantly became the best at the position in his new division when he joined the Bills in 2020. Over the last two seasons, he has amassed a combined 2,760 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, making him the primary target on one of the most high-powered offenses in the game.
Until proven otherwise, Stefon Diggs is the best wide receiver in the AFC East.
