Miami Dolphins: Way-Too-Early 2023 NFL Mock Draft
By Pablo Rosero
The Miami Dolphins let punter Michael Palardy walk this offseason and brought in long-time New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead on a one-year deal. The Dolphins will likely be in the market for a punter once again next season and targeting Oklahoma punter Michael Turk could be in the cards.
The Dolphins opted to go with a proven veteran at the position this offseason, a factor of that could have been the lack of draft picks the Dolphins had. With eight picks in this year’s draft, the Dolphins would benefit from taking the top punter in the class.
Will the Miami Dolphins need a new quarterback in 2023?
Tyler Van Dyke is considered one of the better quarterbacks in the ACC heading into the 2022 and his stock could rise drastically heading into the 2023. He may not have the seasoned and explosive weapons that former Miami Hurricane great quarterbacks, but Van Dyke was able to elevate the team in 2021.
It’s obvious that the Dolphins will be able to take a close look at Van Dyke, the Hurricanes’ home games are played at Hard Rock and former Dolphins occupy the teams’ staff. Van Dyke’s stock should hypothetically raise and he likely won’t land this late, but he should be an option for the Dolphins.
One of the rarer moves in sports occurred twice this offseason when SEC rivals lost players in the transfer portal to Alabama. LSU cornerback Elias Ricks transferred to Alabama and then Georgia wideout Jermaine Burton made the move as well. Alabama gained their rivals’ top corner and projected top wideout.
Burton, who was a helpful piece to the Georgia National Championship, made the switch even though he was set to become the Bulldogs’ top option. The 6’0” 200-pound wideout finished last season with 26 receptions 497 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on a 19.1 yard per catch average.
Burton now leads a fairly young Alabama wideout group headlined by sophomore Ja’Corey Brooks. His draft stock should improve considering he’ll now be catching passes from Heisman trophy winner Bryce Young.
