AFC East most overrated: New York Jets – Zach Wilson

The New York Jets are a gold mine for guys who could be considered overrated. No amount of slow-mo videos of poorly thrown balls being easily picked off by overrated first-round picks that get posted to Damien Woody’s Twitter account are going to make me buy the hype for the 2022 season.

But the most polarizing and overhyped player on the Jets roster also happens to be the face of the franchise.

There is a lot riding on the shoulders of Zach Wilson. The second overall pick from the 2021 Draft is the highest-drafted quarterback in team history and is expected to be the leader of the offense and the franchise for years to come. The Jets will go as Wilson goes.

Things have gotten off to a rocky start. Wilson threw more interceptions (11) than touchdowns (9) in 2021, and ranked terribly amongst his peers. His completion percentage of 55.6 was 33rd ranked amongst eligible quarterbacks, easily dead last. He was 32nd in QBR, worse than Sam Darnold and Trevor Lawrence, and was sacked more than 10 percent of the time he tried to attempt a pass.

And yet, you will find an abundance of Jets fans who believe that Wilson is not the worst quarterback in the AFC East and that he might be the second-best. It doesn’t help that “experts” like Damien Woody continue to put lipstick on a pig by believing that the struggling quarterback is the long-term answer for New York, adding fuel to a fire that should have been extinguished long ago.
