DeVonte Dedmon is an interesting player because of his other skills. That’s why I think he makes the Miami Dolphins roster.

Again, if Mike McDaniel decides to keep six active wide-receivers, I think DeVonte Dedmon will be the 6th. At least, if I had it my way, and all indications are that I don’t, that’s how I would have it.

With how much the league is a passing league and with most sets being three-wide-receiver+/-sets, it makes sense to carry six receivers. At least that’s how I justify keeping six.

DeVonte Dedmon was actually signed before Mike McDaniel was hired if you could believe it. Some say it was the Dedmon move that ultimately led McDaniel to accept the position. Others say shut up with that.

Still, I love the game that DeVonte Dedmon brings to the table. He has a similar skill-set to LBJ and Zu where he is really good with the ball in his hands in the open field even when there are multiple defenders around.

This leads to the reason I want him to make the team and be the Miami Dolphin’s last receiver. He is an excellent kick/punt returner. In fact, that is his calling card. Dedmon can return the hell out of the ball and this is something the Dolphins desperately need. Last year, the Miami Dolphins were 30th in punt return average and 31st in kick return average. DeVonte Dedmon instantly improves that area.

He can also catch passes if you need him to but make no mistake his finest skill is being the Dolphins return guy.

Amazingly or not so amazingly depending on how you see it, I had Lynn Bowden Jr., Erik Ezukanma, and DeVonte Dedmon as the best three options for the Dolphins to fill their return game need. Read all about it here.

Dedmon can play and even though McDaniel didn’t bring him in, I think he’ll like what he brings to the table. He instantly fills a need and would be one less thing he has to think about. Can’t put a price tag on that.

Regardless of how the final two or three spots pan out for the Miami Dolphin’s receiving core and depth chart, one thing you know that is coveted is…
