#2: Nik Needham

Nik Needham, aka “superstar”, turned out to be one of the few bright spots of the Miami Dolphins’ infamous “Tank for Tua” season back in 2019.

Needham was undrafted out of Texas-El Paso and the Dolphins snagged him as an undrafted free agent along with a handful of other players. I don’t think anyone saw the success Needham has been able to generate thus far in his career coming.

From actually making the Dolphins roster, beating out several cornerbacks for the starting role, and emerging as one of the most consistent players on the defense, Needham has had the dream start of a career for an UDFA.

When you’re on a roster as loaded as the Dolphins at the cornerback position, it can sometimes be hard to get the recognition you deserve. Xavien Howard and Byron Jones rightfully get the most praise, but Needham has held down the slot cornerback role for a couple of years now.

Needham has never failed to fill up the stat sheet since joining the team, as he has 6 interceptions, 23 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble, 3 sacks, and 171 tackles in his 3-year career.

Last year specifically for Needham, he again put together a solid campaign with 2 interceptions, 5 pass deflections, 1 sack, 59 tackles, and even scored his first career touchdown in the Monday Night game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Miami Dolphins placed a second-round tender on him this March, which ultimately shows the value the team sees in him. Needham has the potential to emerge as one of the best slot corners in the league, and it’ll be exciting to watch him further develop.
