Predicting Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa final stat line for 2022
Miami Dolphins statistical prediction #3: 27 passing touchdowns, 6 rushing touchdowns
Despite his surgically repaired hip that has undoubtedly robbed him of some of his athleticism and quickness, Tagovailoa has shown that he is capable of running with the ball over his first two professional seasons. He has 237 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground in his 23 games played and could mirror those numbers in one season if used correctly.
Being the run game guru that he is, McDaniel will likely have something in his bag of tricks involving Tua as well. Defenses will be honed in on the plethora of weapons surrounding the quarterback, which could open even more running lanes than he has ever seen before. The coaching (and training) staff will likely try and keep Tagovailoa in the pocket as much as possible, but it may be an effective way to catch the defense napping.
As for the passing touchdown total, it all really depends on Tua’s availability. If he starts all 17 games, then there is plenty of reason to believe that he can eclipse the 30 touchdown mark. But if he is able to average 2.25 touchdown passes per game over a span of 15 games, then he will finish with roughly 27, giving him a total of 33 scores on the year.
