Miami Dolphins 2001 Draft:

26th overall pick: Jamar Fletcher

30th overall pick: Reggie Wayne

32nd overall pick: Drew Brees

Here’s a two-for-one deal. It happened over 20 years ago, but it still stings to look at how the 2001 NFL Draft panned out.

The Miami Dolphins opted to select cornerback Jamar Fletcher with the 26th overall pick that year, and missed out on some of the biggest names of the next decade and beyond.

Despite the recent retirement of Dan Marino and the need for a franchise quarterback, Miami passed on Drew Brees for the first of two times in their history, and he was taken with the first pick of the second round by the Chargers. Two picks earlier, Reggie Wayne was taken by the Colts, and he became the favorite receiver of one of the finest quarterbacks ever.

The selection of Todd Heap was sandwiched in between those two.
