With two first round picks next year, the Miami Dolphins scouting department will be busy in 2022. Who might they have their eye on?
The Miami Dolphins have been reaping the benefits of the Laremy Tunsil trade for a couple of years now, and they’ll have extra assets in the 2023 NFL Draft as the potential cherry on top. Miami owns its own first round pick as well as San Francisco’s for next year’s selection process, and how they use them will depend on how things play out during the 2022 season.
The overwhelming thought is that the picks will be used to replace quarterback Tua Tagovailoa if he struggles. But if he doesn’t, then they could be used to add the final pieces to a roster that could compete for a championship.
Who are the top-tier guys in the Class of 2023 that should be on the radar for the scouting department? Here is an early list of 10 NCAA prospects to watch in 2022:
Paris Johnson Jr / OG / Ohio State
Paris Johnson Jr. is widely considered to be the best offensive lineman prospect in the Class of 2023, and will likely be a top-ten or even top-five pick. The Dolphins’ revamped line still has multiple question marks in Liam Eichenberg, Austin Jackson, and more, and the front office could be forced to use yet another premium draft pick on a player who never touches the ball.
But Johnson is on a prospect level above where Eichenberg and Jackson ever were. The main question that surrounds him is that his body and skill set are those of an offensive tackle, but he played exclusively at guard for the Buckeyes last season. Given how the Dolphins have been shuffling their players along the offensive front over the last couple of seasons, Johnson may fit right in.
