Miami Dolphins veteran under pressure: Austin Jackson

Can a third-year player be considered a veteran? What about one who was a highly touted offensive line prospect that has failed miserably in living up to the expectation of being an every-down piece in a solid unit?

Austin Jackson will be under immense pressure during training camp. Mike McDaniel and the coaching staff will look to unlock the skill set that has been missing during Jackson’s first two seasons, and a starting spot along the offensive line is his for the taking. But given how he has performed early on in his career, there isn’t a lot of reason to be hopeful.

Jackson probably won’t be playing for his roster spot, as he is still on an affordable rookie deal and could provide some needed late-season depth if things go awry with injuries. But for a player that has had so much capital invested in them, an impressive camp performance will be needed if he wants to see regular playing time on Sundays.

The acquisitions of veteran players along the front line should help take the heat off of Jackson, and they may be able to help tutor him along the way, but his future with the Miami Dolphins rests on how he performs in 2022.
