AFC East fantasy football ranking: Defenses are starting to get a lot more attention than in years past and that’s good, right?

In the past, fantasy football players didn’t draft defenses until the final four rounds right before a back-up tight end and kicker. Now, they are starting to much higher as the value seems to be getting better.

Point changes in many leagues are giving good teams a boost as smart owners are looking at the defensive scoring a lot closer and realizing that a top defense is going to score more than a 5th WR. In the AFC East, three teams stand out.

Buffalo Bills

There isn’t a whole lot to say here, the Bills defense is really good and got better this off-season. They should be a late mid-round selection and if you are smart, you can force a run on defenses a lot earlier than would have been expected.

New England Patriots

The offense may be a big question mark but the defense in New England has always been good and that shouldn’t change this year. The Patriots made the playoffs because of defense, not Mac Jones.

Miami Dolphins

I would put Miami above the Patriots and would draft them before NE but one question sticks in my mind that I can’t quite shake just yet. Was it Josh Boyer or Brian Flores that made the unit so good or was it the players?

New York Jets

Statistically, the Jets should be a lot better this year and honestly, they might not be a bad option late in the draft. At the very least, they could be a perfect match-up team for bye weeks but I wouldn’t draft them to start week to week until we see who they actually are.
