Miami Dolphins: Individual award predictions for the 2022 season
Miami Dolphins Defensive MVP: Jevon Holland
While Xavien Howard has deservedly been regarded as the best player in the Dolphins’ secondary, there may be a changing of the guard starting this coming season.
Howard is still considered an elite cornerback and figures to be one of the most important players on the entire roster in 2022. But he is undoubtedly advancing in age, and it wouldn’t be crazy to assume that his best days are behind him.
A player that could unseat him as the Defensive MVP of the team is Jevon Holland, who has all the tools to be an elite, game-changing safety.
The now second-year player is a ball hawk, breaking up 10 passes last season while intercepting two. He is a thumper, with a highlight reel of big hits that is longer than almost any rookie safety that you’ll find. And he knows how to get to the quarterback, as evidenced by his 2.5 sacks in 2021.
Holland figures to continue his upward progression in becoming one of the best safeties in the league, and would be the MVP of the Miami Dolphins defense is he is able to do so. He will have competition with Howard as well as Emmanuel Ogbah or perhaps even Jaelan Phillips, but Holland has the pedigree to come out on top.
