Tua Tagovailoa Goal #2: Show the arm

The only way that Tagovailoa is going to be able to reach goal #1 of surpassing 4,000 yards is if he is able to stretch the field far more than he has in his first two seasons.

It is true that the Dolphins’ offense will focus heavily on yards after the catch, meaning that they won’t have to rely on Tua’s arm strength in order to move the ball. But he’ll have to show that he is able to throw the deep passes to keep opposing defenses honest, both for the short passing game and the rushing attack.

He should get more opportunities in 2022. Through the combination of poor offensive line play, distrust from the coaching staff, and questionable play calling, it can be argued that Tagovailoa has yet to have a true opportunity to show off his talents. That should change now that Brian Flores, whose relationship with Tagovailoa was rocky at best, is now gone.

Mike McDaniel and his staff have already instilled confidence in the player that they hope to be their quarterback of the near future and beyond, and opening up the offense in order for Tua to show off his arm is apparently all a part of the plan.
