Miami Dolphins: 3 story lines to follow for first week of training camp
Miami Dolphins story line #2: Mike McDaniel’s first week at the helm
While the media will talk about the progress of Tua Tagovailoa, the person under perhaps the most pressure is the Mike McDaniel.
The former 49ers offensive assistant and coordinator will be entering his first year as the Dolphins’ head coach, a position he has never held at any level. And while his resume suggests that he may be the next big thing among the coaching ranks, he was not courted by any other franchises during the interview process this off-season.
Can stand up and be the leader of men? Can a guy whose appearance can only be described as “quirky” stand up in front of 300 pound behemoths and motivate them to compete at the highest level?
The first week of training camp will tell us a lot. Well, it probably won’t tell us a lot, as players will be too positive during the first week to publicly criticize anything that the new coach does. But it will be known early on in the locker room exactly what McDaniel brings to the table, and if it is anything like his player relationships in the off-season, things should get off to a good start in Miami.
