Miami Dolphins: 3 realistic goals for Jaelan Phillips in 2022
Miami Dolphins: Jaelan Phillips goal #3: Live up to the hype
Phillips was a part of a draft class that the Dolphins hope will produce multiple cornerstone pieces for the franchise. While it is Jaylen Waddle and Jevon Holland who typically get the hype as the potential perennial Pro Bowlers, it would be wise to not overlook Phillips as one as well.
He was one of the more highly touted defensive prospects in the 2021 Draft, but his health concerns caused him to drop all the way to the 18th slot. He was the 5th defensive player taken and the third pass rusher/linebacker when Miami made him their second selection of the first round.
Phillips was widely considered the best pass rusher available that year. During his rookie season in Miami, he seemed to have overcome at least some of his injury woes, appearing in all 17 contests in 2021. His performance was streaky, but he showed flashes of the dominance that made him the prospect that he was. If he is able to string together a stretch of productive games, then there is reason to believe that he can achieve the goal of a double-digit sack total.
While there are certain benchmarks and statistical goals for Jaelan Phillips in his second professional season, simply living up to his draft billing should be a goal as well.
