Miami Dolphins: Lynn Bowden Jr.’s familiarity with Tua Tagovailoa

One of the keys to success for Tua Tagovailoa early in his career has been familiarity. The connection between him and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle dates back to the duo’s collegiate days at the University of Alabama, and it showed last season in Waddle’s record-breaking production.

And while they never played together in college, Bowden and Tagovailoa have a bond and familiarity that often stretches into each other’s off-season programs.

Bowden missed all the 2021 season but was one of the primary targets for Tagovailoa during the quarterback’s rookie season the year before. The pair connected 27 times in the five games that they have ever played together, with Bowden only having one other career catch (a one-yard loss from Ryan Fitzpatrick).

They made up for the time lost from Bowden’s injury by teaming up with the same personal trainer for their off-season workout regimen. Social media clips of the two putting in work both on the grass and in the sand were the norm during the spring and summer, and many of those drills included throwing and catching reps between them.

In comparison, Preston Williams has caught just 8 passes from Tagovailoa in the 6 games that the two have played together.
