Miami Dolphins DB prediction #1: Jones leads all DBs in sacks. Again.

The Dolphins struck gold during the middle of the season in 2021 when they unleashed the zero blitz package that often terrorized opposing quarterbacks. The innovation turned around the lackluster performance of the defense, which helped propel Miami to an impressive seven-game winning streak to reverse their early misfortunes.

The mostly-two-pronged attack was led by safeties Jevon Holland and Brandon Jones, the latter of whom was the statistical beneficiary. Jones’ 5 sacks were the most of any defensive back in the NFL, and he enjoyed his coming-out party during his second season in the league. He did it all while missing two games in the middle of his most productive stretch.

Can he do it again? While the defense was of course built and designed by former head coach Brian Flores, lead coordinator Josh Boyer remains in the role he has possessed since 2020. Much of the schemes will be the same, and executed by many of the same players, with hopefully similar or even better results.

If Jones is able to stay healthy for a full 17-game slate and the Dolphins’ defense continues to run many of the same schemes, don’t be surprised to see him lead all defensive backs in sacks again in 2022.
