Miami Dolphins: 3 players who could replace Mike Gesicki in 2023
Miami Dolphins replacements for Mike Gesicki: Sam LaPorta
If the Dolphins hope to go really young, then perhaps they’d be willing to spend some draft capital in order to obtain their tight end of the future. And they may not have to spend one of their high-round picks in order to get one.
While the draft class of 2023 will not be overwhelmingly tight-end-heavy, there will be some talented prospects to be had within the first couple of rounds. It is hard to tell what needs Miami will have come April of next year, and whether they are willing to spend one of their first two drafts picks on a tight end is questionable.
But if they do decide to go that route, then a guy like Sam LaPorta from Iowa is someone they could consider in the second round. Currently ranked within the top 5 tight ends on nearly every draft board (Michael Mayer is a consensus number one), LaPorta possesses many of the quality traits that NFL teams look for in their tight ends. His blocking is a work in progress, though he has the raw ability that needs to be honed. Anything besides being a traffic cone would be a step up from Gesicki in that regard.
Other names to watch for if the Dolphins decide to spend high capital on a tight end are Arik Gilbert from Georgia and Cameron Latu out of Alabama.
