Miami Dolphins: 3 things I’m specifically looking for in their last game

With practice being canceled on Thursday, it’s possible that the final preseason game for the Miami Dolphins could go a long way in finalizing the roster.

I realize that many of the Miami Dolphins decision in terms of who is making the roster has already been completed by Mike McDaniel, the rest of the coaching staff, and Chris Grier. I mean, they’ve been seeing these guys for close to a month now so I don’t think one more preseason game is going to illuminate many new things to the coaching staff.

Still and especially because the practice was canceled, there are still going to be a few opportunities to make plays that could potentially convince the coaches to rethink their choices.

Positions such as the wide-receiver room are still very much up in the air. I think we can safely say that Trent Scherfield is making the team. He’s made plays in actual games and from all the reports has had a very strong camp. Also, being one of Mike McDaniel’s guys from San Francisco gives him an edge.

I think Lynn Bowden is making the team as well. He’s done decent at receiver though he had that one drop last week. But, it seems that he is in line for the return guy. That’s very valuable because it’s something the Miami Dolphins desperately need.

That leaves one more spot. I think that the last receiver spot is between Braylon Sanders and River Cracraft. I really don’t know who has the edge there. I do believe that whichever one of those guys doesn’t make the roster will be placed on the practice squad. That’s not bad at all because both of these guys have done well so far.

Cornerback is another position that isn’t sewn up yet. With Byron Jones’ uncertainty of whether or not he’ll be available for week one, this is very important. You’d think Nik Needham slides to the #2 spot but then who gets the #3 spot? Will it be Noah Igbinoghene who gets toasted seemingly every time he’s out there? Or will Elijah Campbell, Keion Crossen, or Kader Kohou step up and be thought of as guys that can provide real snaps on defense? Again, I don’t think any of us know where it’s exactly headed.

Obviously, who is going to be the backup lineman is crucial. Larnel Coleman hasn’t inspired anyone and Michael Dieter looks to be the backup center and guard. But I’m very curious to see Greg Little get his first work in a preseason game. He may very well be Terron Armstead’s very necessary backup.

So, I think the coaches know where they’re headed in a lot of these position groups, but this last preseason game before the final roster gets finalized is something that they will take seriously because it’s another opportunity to evaluate. Any chance to see their players in action against another jersey is more information and knowledge is power.

Enjoy the last game and pray to whoever you pray to that nobody gets hurt.

BONUS REASON TO WATCH- We get to see the Skylark Skylar Thompson and Erik Eazy-E Ezukanma again. These guys are electric at the moment and I don’t care if it’s against backups. They can play ball and I want to see them do it.
