Who will lead the Miami Dolphins in sacks?

Don’t Be Surprised:

Trey Flowers, Melvin Ingram

Both of the players in this section are a couple of years removed from their more formidable pass-rushing days, but we have seen career resurgences from edge guys lately.

The most recent example is former Miami Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn, who had a respectable 6.5 sack performance in 2018 at the age of 28. He went on to play for the Cowboys the next season where he had a career resurgence, racking up 11.5 sacks, and in 2021, Quinn finished second in the league with a whopping 18.5 takedowns of the quarterback.

So who is to say that one of Miami’s newcomers can’t have some kind of similar re-birth of their career?

Melvin Ingram was named to three straight Pro Bowls from 2017 until 2019 and racked up a total of 24.5 sacks during the three most dominant seasons of his career. He had just a total of just two last year while playing for both the Chiefs and Steelers, but showed flashes of the talent that made him a feared pass rusher just a few years back.

Trey Flowers was a late addition to the team, having been signed just two weeks before the Miami Dolphins take the field for Week 1. He was never as dominant as Ingram, but for Flowers, consistency was the key to success early on in his career. He notched 6.5 or more in four straight seasons after becoming a regular rotation player and starter. 7.5 is his career high, so leading the Dolphins in sacks this season would be quite an impressive feat.
