3 reasons the Miami Dolphins need to trade Teddy Bridgewater right now

We’re only one week into the 2022 NFL season and I want the Miami Dolphins to make an impact move. Not only would this move be savvy and loaded with foresight, but it would potentially get the best out of Tua Tagovailoa. The Miami Dolphins need to trade Teddy Bridgewater and they need to do it yesterday.

I’ve relished in victory Monday long enough, I’m on to the future. And the future I want to live in is where Teddy Bridgewater is playing for another team.

Obviously, the #1 team on everyone’s list where Bridgewater should be headed is Dallas. Dak Prescott is done for around two months and all they have is Cooper Rush. If they want to salvage their season in the slightest they need an upgrade at quarterback. I don’t think they trade for Jimmy G. That would be too much money. Teddy Bridgewater makes more sense, financially.

The Cowboys and their very reasonable and not bizarre owner and his son have come out and said that they are evaluating the situation and seeing if they can add a 3rd quarterback.

That’s good enough for me. The Dallas Cowboys are looking to upgrade the quarterback position. Chris Grier should, and I imagine he is, be having discussions to see if Dallas would be interested in Teddy 2-Gloves.

Teddy is a capable starter. He’s not a guy you build around but he’s a guy that can often not crash the car. He’s a professional. He’s a professional that I don’t want on the Miami Dolphin’s roster. Here’s why.

What can the Miami Dolphins get for Teddy Bridgewater? I think fair value.

I think the Miami Dolphins can get a 3rd round pick for Teddy Bridgewater. He’s a guy who has won games in the league, who usually doesn’t turn the ball over who players seemingly respect. I think that gets you a 3rd rounder.

That would be great. Personally, I’d take pretty much anything for him but if I’m the Miami Dolphins I’m starting at a 3rd.

Remember, the Dolphins don’t have that extra 1st rounder next year due to Miami being the only team to get caught with tampering(yes, I’m aware other teams have gotten caught as well but none of them ever got ratted out by a disgruntled head coach). This team needs more draft capital and trading Bridgewater gets you more capital.

Also, if the Miami Dolphins trade Bridgewater, they can save themselves around $4.5M in salary. I’m all for saving as much money as possible especially headed into next year when you’re going to need to pay some guys.

If the Miami Dolphins are able to add another player to their 53-man roster, who isn’t nearly guaranteed to sit the bench, they will be a better team.

The Miami Dolphins having three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster isn’t ideal. We know why they’re doing it but it’s still not the way you draw it up. Having two extra guys who, unless something bad happens, hold clipboards, eliminates someone else who has a better chance of contributing to the game being able to play.

The Miami Dolphins had seven inactive players on Sunday. Two of those guys, I would have loved to see suited up. Those players were rookie sensation Eazy- E, Erik Ezukanma, and recently signed Trey Flowers.

It’s being said that Ezukanma didn’t make the active list because he’s still learning the playbook. That’s why River Cracraft was in there. Flowers, on the other hand, I’m not sure about. Maybe he is still settling in.

Either way, one of those two guys can suit up if Teddy Bridgewater is dealt to another team. That would make the team better. We want as many good players, that can actually impact the game, to be wearing a jersey on Sundays.

Maybe because our injuries on the offensive line mean the Dolphins will go out and sign another lineman that they can suit up on Sunday in the event that Bridgewater is gone? That be fine with me. Again, bring more players that can help on Sundays compared to having players who will only be inserted in the game because of an injury.

I am planting my flag on the hill that is Skylar Thompson and I am 100% comfortable with that.

I’m pretty sure we all saw this as being the #1 reason why the Miami Dolphins should trade Teddy Bridgewater. The Skylark Skylar Thompson is lurking in the shadows just waiting to be elevated to the backup quarterback position.

For the record, I have no sources at all for what I’m going to say here. This is all based on what I imagine Mike McDaniel knows and sees at practice, in games, and on tape.

That being said, if I was able to give Mike McDaniel truth serum, something I bet he would consider a fun time, I bet he would say that Skylar Thompson who is a 7th round rookie can’t be worse than Tua Tagovailoa especially if Tua is going to play scared. I’m willing to bet a lot on that.

I am fully aware that Skylar Thompson had perhaps the best preseason of any quarterback ever against backups. I know that is a fact. But I am also fully aware that Thompson wasn’t afraid of making any throw and he let it rip. And guess what? It typically worked out very well and produced big plays.

Thompson wasn’t rattled when guys were coming after him, near his legs, or anything like that. He just handled the situation, navigated the pocket, and threw dart after dart. Mike McDaniel saw that and he’s not a dummy. He knows fully well, that currently, Tua is either not seeing guys open or he doesn’t trust his arm to get the ball there. Either one of those reasons why he left so many guys open down the field on Sunday is very concerning.

This team is too good to be held back only to score 13 points. As I said in my recap of the game from Sunday, which you can and should read here, leaving plays on the field isn’t going to beat the Bills, Chiefs, and Chargers. It just won’t.

This could be the best thing for Tua because if he really feels the heat of Skylar behind him maybe it finally ignites that fire in him. Maybe it forces him to play a bit more carefree and let the ball fly. That’s the Tua I want to see.

I’m not saying that I want Teddy traded, Skylar made the backup and he comes in after one mistake by Tua. I’m saying if Tua continues to look like a backup out there who is missing guys downfield, consistently, then a conversation about a change is in play. That band-aid may need to get ripped off because I really don’t think Skylar will be gun-shy. He’ll make mistakes like most rookies do but he won’t be as bad as Tua was on Sunday. I honestly believe that. I bet in the back of McDaniel’s head, he knows that as well.
