The Miami Dolphins could go in a bunch of different directions at the tight end position but drafting one is not likely.

Miami Dolphins fans should not expect to see the Dolphins draft a tight end early next year. Even if that TE is the best in class and falls in their lap. Miami has a young core of TEs including Durham Smythe, Hunter Long, and Tanner Conner but the elephant in the room is Mike Gesicki.

Will Gesicki be a Miami Dolphins TE beyond this year? It is possible and he is doing everything the Dolphins are asking him to. He is learning to play TE but as we saw against the Ravens, Miami needs him in the passing game. That is his bread and butter and he is one of the best in that area.

Gesicki will be expensive and if the Dolphins opt to keep him, this isn’t a position of need and if they let him go, it could become one depending on how Long and Conner develop this year.

If the Dolphins opt to move on, they could address the position in the middle rounds. I don’t see the Dolphins going into free agency to find a replacement unless they are signing a mid-tier TE that they believe can be serviceable.

The key will be Mike Gesicki and what the Dolphins decide to do with him.
