Miami Dolphins reasons for optimism, the Dolphins’ schedule is favorable for the next several weeks.

2. Already through a tough part of the schedule

One of the talking points of the off-season and main causes for concern amongst the fan base was the brutal early season schedule that the Dolphins were going to have to endure.

Before the start of the season, the team’s first four games read like this:

  • Week 1: against a playoff team and division opponent who just spent two decades dominating the AFC East
  • Week 2: against a perennial hard-nosed opponent who, before last season, had historical ownage on Miami
  • Week 3: against the best team in the NFL
  • Week 4: road game on a short week against the reigning AFC champions

If you had asked back in August, most of us would have been happy with a 2-2 result after the first four, and some would have told you that 1-3 could even be recovered from (given reason #3). But the Dolphins have defied most of those odds, both on the scoreboard and in Vegas, and have jumped out to an improbable 3-1 start. They still sit atop the standings in the AFC East.

So while Tagovailoa’s injury is obviously concerning, the toughest part of the first half of the schedule is in the rearview mirror. No matter the current health situation, Miami has set themselves up for success for the rest of 2022 by winning the games they have so far.
