Miami Dolphins Week 5 Observations

4. Noah Igbinoghene…still not good

Because of the injury issues at the top of the depth chart, cornerback Noah Igbinoghene took his first defensive snaps of 2022, and things don’t look like they have improved for the former first-round pick who won’t be able to shake the “bust” tag.

Igbinoghene looked confused on multiple coverages, and caused a collision between himself and Jerome Baker that provided an open field for a big play for the Jets, one that helped put the Dolphins away for good. If the secondary can get their health back in order and their regular starters can remain on the field, then we absolutely should never see Igbo play meaningful snaps for Miami ever again.

5. Skylar Thompson holds on to the ball for way too long

One of the few knocks on Tua Tagovailoa early in the season was his tendency to hold on to the ball too long while under pressure, but his issue is nothing compared to that of Skylar Thompson.

Despite the poor health of the offensive line and lack of continuity at the unit, they did an acceptable job in both the running and passing games on Sunday, and kept Thompson upright for the most part. But much of the pressure that the quarterback felt was self-inflicted, as he seemed hesitant to throw the deep ball on more than a few occasions, resulting in broken plays, scrambles, sacks, and fumbles. He was indecisive throughout the afternoon, something that ultimately cost the team both yards and points.
