Miami Dolphins players who could be traded
3. Mike Gesicki
It was assumed before the season began as the writing was on the wall, but his lack of usage in the early going proves that Mike Gesicki has fallen out of favor in this Miami Dolphins offense.
It has everything to do with his blocking ability. His soft hands and insane catch radius have made him one of Miami’s primary targets over the last few seasons, and he still holds plenty of value in the league. But his skill set just doesn’t fit with what the Dolphins are trying to do.
When asked about the tight end situation, offensive coordinator Frank Smith praised Durham Smythe’s blocking ability, and mentioned that that is the difference between him and the rest of the tight ends. “Ultimately, production on the ball at that position gets highlighted by a lot,” Smith said. “But the difference between many tight ends is those guys that have the ability to block, they’re really invaluable.”
Gesicki has played in just 48 percent of all offensive snaps this season, far below his usual average. He is playing under the franchise tag, meaning that any team that chooses to trade for him would have to figure out his immediate contract situation. But don’t be surprised if these are the last days for Gesicki in a Dolphins uniform.
